What's the difference between the corn Cleaner alone and the Mobile Unit?

The corn Cleaner alone MUST have a sealed container to work.  The vacuum created by your wet/dry vac creates a negative pressure in your sealed (airtight) container, this allows corn to flow from a corn transfer hose into the cleaner and then it falls out the bottom of the cleaner into your sealed container.

The Mobile Unit is maintains the vacuum within the lower chamber.  It has a set of rotating blades that are turned by the electric motor.  The blades have a rubber seals that maintain the vacuum, which allows corn to be transferred from the hose, to the cleaner to the lower chamber of the Mobile Unit.  When the corn enters the lower chamber, it is rotated around and falls out the bottom, and the rubber seals maintain a vacuum within the system.  The Mobile Unit can be placed on top of any storage container or hopper and does NOT have to be sealed.  The parts on the Mobile Unit are precision cut pieces and it is almost entirely made of synthetic materials, which means no rusting or corrosion.  This piece of machinery is built to last.  (Return to Top)

How far can corn be moved?

We have personally moved corn about 75-100 feet before using solid PVC piping.  We have heard of others moving corn in excess of 100 feet.  The most important thing is to make sure that all of your connections are smooth transitions.  We recommend using a 6.5 hp vac for these distances.  (Return to Top)

What kind of pvc piping should I use for long distances?

To transfer corn over 10-15 feet, we recommend using solid pvc piping.  We recommend using the Grey schedule 40 PVC pipe found in the electrical section of the hardware store.  This pipe has a "bell or hub" on one end and a straight section on the other end (no additional couplers are needed to join two pipes together).  If bends are necessary, be sure to use the matching grey bends, they are long sweeping bends.  The white pvc pipe bends are very short and may cause blockages if used.

When laying out your run of pipe, be sure to have the bell/hub end of the pipe pointing towards the corn source (away from the cleaner).  This provides a smoother transition from pipe to pipe.  Remember, every bend or joint you have is a potential source of clogging.

It is also required to run the solid pvc pipe DIRECTLY to the cleaner!!  No flexible pipe should be used at the cleaner/mobile unit.  The ONLY place where flexible pvc pipe should be used is at the corn storage source (the beginning of the run).

when running long distances, it is advisable to NOT glue all of the joints together, there may be an occasion when something larger gets lodged in the run and you will have to dismantle the piping to remove the clog.

What if I buy the $68 cleaner now and later decide to purchase a Mobile Unit or U-build kit?

If you purchase a cleaner and later decide to purchase the Mobile Unit, U-build kit or 25 gallon Secondary tank, we will refund you $68 on the purchase of these items.  The $68 cleaner is the same cleaner on the Mobile Unit, U-build kit and 25 gallon Secondary tank.  (The cleaner on the 15 gallon secondary tank IS different)

When ordering the Mobile Unit, U-build kit or 25 gallon Secondary tank, just email us at info@cornvac.com after you've placed your order and we will refund you $68 and not send the cleaner with your order.  In order for us to do this, we MUST have prior records of your past order of our cleaner.  (Return to Top)

What type of warranty or guarantee are with your products?

We have a 90 day warranty on all of our products, however, we will stand behind our products past the 90 days to repair any manufacturing defects if they occur.  We will do what it takes to satisfy our customers.  The materials we use on our products are quality materials that should last a lifetime with proper use.  With any product, neglect, such as dropping the unit or other mishandling is not a problem with manufacturing and will not be covered under any warranty.  We will service our products in the future if problems do arise.  Our Mobile Unit and cleaner were designed to be serviced.  If any parts get worn or damaged, they are all interchangeable and can be replaced or serviced.  The Mobile Unit does have moving parts that over years of use, may require replacement, however, our parts are made of durable materials that we expect to last for many years.  The Cleaner has no moving parts and will last a lifetime with proper use.  (Return to Top)

Could I build my own cleaner for less?

We have talked with many customers that have made their own cleaners, however, they ended up purchasing our $68 cleaner, because their homemade system was big and did not always function properly.  There are several different systems around that people can build themselves, however, before building one you should check out how much it will cost and how long it will take to do it.  We have had others that have spent hundreds of dollars getting their system to work and eventually gave up and purchased our $68 cleaner.  Others that eventually did get their homemade system working were unhappy with them because they were too big and bulky to fit into their space.  Our cleaner is very compact (10 inches tall by 6 inches in diameter).   Our cleaner has a 360 degree rotating head and weights about 5 pounds, and its portable.  The homemade systems out there are not portable and not compact in any way close to our cleaner.

There is no need to build one yourself anymore....Our products work and can be delivered to your doorstep in a matter of days.  If you would add up the costs to make your own cleaner, you would almost ALWAYS pay more than $68.  The cost of materials, time and gas back and forth to the hardware store will probably be much more than our cleaner cost.

The Mobile Unit is a precision machine that would be very difficult to build yourself.  We spent over a year developing it and thousands of dollars testing materials and methods to make our unit a durable product.

What size Wet/Dry vac do I need?

We recommend using a 6.5 horsepower wet/dry vac.  All of our testing is performed with a Rigid brand 6.5 hp unit.  We have performed testing on smaller horsepower wet/dry vacs with good success, however, it all depends on how far you are transporting corn and how high you are lifting it.  If you are only moving corn 10 feet and not lifting the corn, you could probably use a smaller wet/dry vac, however, it may not transfer as fast and it may not clean as well.  We have had others with older vacs say that a new 6.5 horsepower vac made a big difference in how well it worked.  If you already have an older/smaller vac, it would be worth trying.......just be prepared to make a purchase of a newer unit just in case it doesn't perform to your satisfaction.  (Return to Top)

Can I make my corn furnace hopper airtight and use your cleaner with it?

We have not tried it before, but we have heard others say NO.  Many users have a 14 bushel hopper with their corn furnace and have asked to make the hopper airtight and attach our cleaner on top.  The 14 bushel hopper itself is not made to hold a vacuum, and the auger system on the bottom is a source of air leaks.  If the bottom auger is not sealed, the heat and smoke from the furnace burn pot will be sucked up through the system and possible cause a fire or at the very least, fill the room with smoke.

We do have customers that place the Mobile Unit directly on top of their hopper and transfer/clean corn directly to their hopper from their corn source.  This works great because the Mobile Unit does not need an airtight container.  Others also hang our secondary tank over their hopper and fill the tank up and open the gate to allow the corn to fall directly into their hopper.  (Return to Top)

How fast does the Mobile Unit transfer corn?

All of our products will transfer corn at about the same rate.  They all work on the same principle of using a wet/dry vac to provide power to transfer and clean corn.  We have had transfer rates as fast as 45 pounds per minute using a very short run with no height lift.  The typical setup of transferring corn 10-15 feet with a 4-5 foot vertical rise is typically about 35 pounds per minute (2,100 pounds or 1+ ton per hour).  The more distance you are travelling, the slower the transfer rate will be.  We have tested a run of 40 feet with a 2-3 foot lift which resulted in 30 pounds per minute.  When going longer distances, you MUST be careful in laying out your piping system to work properly.  See the FAQ above for more information.  (Return to Top)
